Here is our easy to follow guide on how to identify your chain. Don't worry though, it's not as difficult as it may seem.

The first thing to know when it comes to the measurement of a chain and bar is that the length of them both is actually just the cutting capacity of the bar, it is not the total length of the bar or chain from end to end.

Chains are most easily identified by a number that is stamped into one side of the drive links on your chain. These are the parts of the chain beneath the rivets that go into the groove of the bar. Chain manufacturers use different numbers so please use the chart below to identify which Oregon chain type you have.

All you need to do then is count how many drive links there are in total on your chain. Please don't count just the teeth/cutters else you will get the wrong chain. The easiest way to count all the drive links is to take the chain off your saw.

Now you will know the chain type that you have and the drive link count that you need so you can go to our Chain Loops category to find the chain you need.

Sometimes the numbers on the drive links will have worn away but don't worry, we can still ensure you get the chain you need. Having a micrometer, vernier or caliper would help, but you can always send your chain to us for identification instead. Please Contact Us and we will assist further.
